Highland Alpaca is a small farm located in rural western Pennsylvania. We share the area with several small colleges and an Amish community. The farm began in 1998 with three pregnant females and three weanlings.
From that modest beginning, we have won over forty National awards, including the AOBA 2000 First Place Brown Male and Color Reserve Champion for black females, AOBA 2002 First Place Light Brown Juvenile Female and AOBA 2006 First Place Light Brown Yearling Male. Our young females have also taken multiple Color Championships in 2006 and 2007 in brown and white color classes.
Our blue ribbons total over fifty from regional and national shows and we are happy to see that our cria are now carrying on that winning tradition.
We have made several purchases of West Coast males to become the "full service" smaller breeder in Western Pennsylvania. This all means great genetic diversity and an unbeatable return-breeding program for purchased females. Check out our website for further details.
UPDATE: Our plans to expand the business are in motion and we have moved to 18 beautiful acres of pasture land and open sky. We are both retired from our teaching positions and spend full time on the farm. All this allows us to provide additional opportunities for small breeders to use our boarding and brokering services. We believe that staying small has its advantages. We love giving our alpacas individual attention and enjoy the unique personalities that develop from our daily interactions. Our cria and bred females represent a variety of champion bloodlines for breeders getting started or looking to improve their herd. With the selection of quality breeding stock, we believe that small breeders have a place in this growing industry.
From proven top quality animals, we offer sales, breedings, financing, boarding, and after-purchase support. All our sales to new breeders include free tuition to a neonatal clinic, a new breeder start-up kit, and of course, the assurance that there will always be someone to call upon when questions come up.
